ImportantA Canada eTA is for short visits only. It does not allow you to work or study in Canada — those require a work or study permit. It is required only when you travel to Canada by air: if you arrive by car, bus, train or boat (including a cruise ship) you generally do not need an eTA, although you still need a valid passport. An eTA does not guarantee entry — a border services officer makes the final decision when you arrive.
